Founded in 1882, the Jewish community of Waidhoffen an der Thaya included the district of Gmünd, Zwettl, Pöggstall and Waidhofen and Ottenschlag. In 1932 there were 317 members of the Jewish community in Stockerau, of whom 96 paid taxes. The community maintained several communal institutions of a synagogue that was built in 1882 and a cemetery established also in 1882, and there also a women’s organization.
Dr. M. G. Mehrer from Vienna served as a rabbi, and Alfred Neufeld from Horn was teacher of religion.
