The Jewish Community of Krems an der Donau dates back to the 12th century. During the 20th century it included Krems, Gföhl, Langenlois, Mautern and Spitz an der Donau. In 1932, there were 197 Jews living in Krems an der Donau. The community maintained several institutions, an old cemetery, a new cemetery and a synagogue, and in addition there was also a Zionist group active in Krems an der Donau.
