Jews appear to have lived in Herzogenburg before 1350. During the 14th century David of Herzogenburg was accepted as a citizen of Regensburg. The Jews living in Herzogenburg were moneylenders. The circle of customers of a certain Hetschlein expanded to Vienna, Regensburg and Prague. In the 1420 expulsion due to the “Vienna Gezera” (persecutions), Jews from Herzogenburg moved to Oedenburg (Sopron) and Wiener Neustadt.
